After falling out with someone, why do we always end on the last note of wishing them well?

I came across a comment from a woman who was hurt by an ex. She stated that she had moved forward with her life, but she didn’t and would never wish him well.

This is when I had an epiphany!

Throughout the years of falling out with people who we were once very close to, we always end on the note:

I wish you well. I wish you the best. I wish you achieve all that you want in life…

Why? Why do we do this?

Why should we waste our well wishes on those who hurt us? Why should we wish the absolute best for those who probably wouldn’t do the same for us? Why should we care if they continue to accomplish their life goals or not?

I have a few theories in mind…
